A chemical peel can be described as a controlled injury to the skin by the use of chemical agents of various strengths. The peel is done to a pre-determined depth to cause a change in the layers of the skin. Peels can be classified by the depth they penetrate, superficial - very light, superficial, medium and deep.
With increasing research into sun damage and what causes wrinkles, the use of acids has increased greatly in popularity because of their effectiveness. Superficial peels are gentle and safe and there is no need for a prolonged healing time, thus the term "lunch time peel." Certain conditions call for a more aggressive, deep peel that leaves the skin raw and red but it is not the norm. Unfortunately the perception is that all peels do that and we are left with many myths, one being that peels thin the skin, when in fact peels restore the skins thickness which has been damaged by the sun.

We at London Beauty Clinic use medical strength, superficial peels that are quick, safe and non-invasive requiring no recovery time. We offer Glycolic Acid (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) and Beta Peels (Salicylic Acid). Treatments are usually done in a series of 4-6 peels, 2-4 weeks apart and are designed to suit the patient’s condition and skin type.
We strongly advise to Pre-condition the skin for 1-2 weeks before starting a series of peels is advisable. The prescribed products containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids will reduce excess dead cell mass and improve peel penetration for an even result.
The use of a sunscreen while you are being treated is essential and following a home care regime that is compatible with your treatment will add to the results.
